Google Analytics

GA4 is enabled by default unless this browser has opted out. It measures visits and recognised public-page views for site improvement. Our integration does not send account IDs, form contents or personal coordinates, and strips unrelated URL parameters and fragments. BestSwell does not use analytics for advertising, remarketing or personal profiling. Advertising states, Google Signals and ad-personalisation signals are disabled in our integration.

Analytics cookies and choice storage

The Google tag can use first-party cookies named _ga and _ga_* to associate events within a browsing session. They are configured as session cookies; browser session restoration can affect when a browser removes them. This is separate from Google-held event retention. The bestswell.analytics-preference.v2 local-storage value remembers whether analytics is enabled or disabled without an application expiry. The first-party bestswell_analytics fallback cookie remembers the same choice for up to 400 days, renewed on visits, subject to browser limits. Older saved rejections are preserved rather than reset.

How to opt out

Open Privacy / analytics settings and turn Site analytics off. This is free, takes effect immediately for further measurement and deletes accessible GA cookies. A later visit on the same browser does not load the Google tag while the saved objection remains. You can turn it back on deliberately. Choices apply to this browser, not every device or your account. If storage is blocked, the settings tell you when a choice could only be kept for the current page. Clearing site data removes saved choices. With JavaScript disabled, the Google integration does not load.

Accounts and preferences

Secure HttpOnly login and OAuth-flow cookies are used to provide requested account and sign-in features. Device preferences store saved beaches, surf level, units, language and appearance; they can be cleared or remembering disabled in Settings. These are separate from analytics, and email alerts still have their own opt-in.

Other services

Cloudflare Turnstile provides anti-abuse checks for account, report and contact-form actions. The forecast map loads coastline imagery from Esri as it approaches view or is expanded. Sign-in providers and camera links involve their own services when you choose them. This update does not grant consent for advertising, marketing or unrelated tracking, and does not change their separate controls. No advertising pixels or Ads tags are installed in the reviewed BestSwell integration. Any future non-exempt tracking requires separate consent.
